    Jasmé Kelly (The Daughter of Soul) is an internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, and producer with over 20 years of professional experience. A recipient of the Durham Arts Council’s Emerging Artist Grant, Jasmé’s career highlights include sharing the stage with legends like B.B. King, Al Jarreau, and Ledisi, as well as her current work preserving musical history with the Nina Simone Legacy Project.

    Beyond her performance credits, Jasmé is a highly credentialed educator. She holds a Master’s in Music from Southern Utah University and has inspired hundreds of students as the former Director of "Blues in the Schools" and a veteran Camp Director.

    Class Format: Jasmé will lead our all-day Vocal Intensive, where she will guide students through a transformative experience in vocal technique, stage presence, and soulful artistry

    Phillip Shabazz is an acclaimed poet, author, and teaching artist who believes that your words have the power to change the world. Over his impressive career, he has taught at more than 300 schools, helping students find their unique voices through creative writing and storytelling. His work explores the big ideas of family, culture, and community, and has earned him a nomination for the prestigious William C. Friday Fellowship for Human Relations. Through his "Living Words" workshops, Phillip shows young writers how to use poetry as a direct tool for expression and personal connection. Whether he is writing about the resilience of local communities or mentoring aspiring authors, his goal is to make the arts fun, engaging, and inspiring for everyone. Get ready to be empowered by your own creativity as you learn from one of North Carolina’s most dedicated mentors in the literary arts.

    Mickey Mills, an energetic entertainer known as the “fastest steel drum soloist on Earth!” Originally from Trinidad, Mickey started playing at age 12 and has since shared the stage with superstars like Mick Jagger, Jimmy Buffet and Kenny Chesney. He brings the authentic sounds of the Caribbean to life, blending reggae, calypso, and soca into a high-energy musical experience. Whether he’s performing in a Broadway show or at Madison Square Garden, Mickey loves sharing the joyful vibes and history of island rhythms. At Arts Unplugged, you’ll get to learn from a world-class musician who has spent his career performing across the globe.     Josh Lucia is an award-winning actor and director dedicated to making performing arts accessible to everyone in our region. As a founder of the Smokestack Theatre Company, he has performed in numerous local productions and is a key member of Smokestack Improv. A graduate of Chatham High School and Liberty University, Josh also runs his own video production company, Lucia Video. He has a passion for youth theater training and has led exciting projects like the "Ghosts & Gravestones" production. Josh is thrilled to bring his professional experience to Arts Unplugged to help students explore their own creative talents. Get ready to learn from a local pro who is committed to helping young artists find their voice on stage!

    PARENT MEDICAL RELEASE FORM

    Meet your instructor -  Jared Terrell is a professional artist and educator originally from Caswell County, but has lived abroad in Italy, Miami, Las Vegas and the Rocky Mountain region of the West before returning to his home in North Carolina. Mr. Terrell has taught high school History and Visual Arts for twenty-five years and serves on the Board of Directors for Caswell Arts. This is Mr. Terrell's fourth year of being an illustration instructor for Arts Unplugged. Mr. Terrell creates traditional paintings, landscapes, and portrait commissions as well as comic book, science fiction and fantasy art for book authors and Comicons. 

    Mr. Terrell will teach drawing and illustration focusing on student interest in Comic Book and Manga Style Illustration. We will start with drawing & sketching basics, penciling, inking and color. Character concept illustration, storyboarding for comics and sequential art techniques will be explored, allowing students to create Comic Book/Manga character design as well as a sample sequential art page.

Cleverly disguised as music, Greg’s programs are actually hands-on philosophy teaching us how to live, work, and play well together in community.  Leveraging world music and ancient wisdom traditions, campers learn to play hand percussion as they explore character development through rhythm.  Everyone gets to be in the band at www.drumforchange.com

    Meet your instructor, Ta’Niya Stephens.  Ta’Niya is a dancer, choreographer and educator from Caswell County with years of experience in various styles including contemporary, jazz, ballet and more. Her dance classes will focus on jazz dance choreography. Students will explore basic dance techniques along with musicality, creativity, teamwork and more.
